Life Hack: Easy Way To Open Plastic Packaging!

We've all been there, right? Buying something inexplicably wrapped in plastic casing that's eerily reminiscent of titanium steel?

Your scissors are no match for it. The usually-dependable pocket knife makes drunken swipes but just can't get the job done. What to do, what to do ...

DIY Tangle-Free Hair Accessories

These tangle-free accessories can be found everywhere from Anthropologie to Wal-Mart!  I first saw this idea on pinterest - check out Simple Medicine's tutorial.

Fun back-to-school project. Get together with your friends to make matching accessories!

DIY Customized Book Safe

My nephew prefers cash to presents. I wanted to find a fun way to package it. What's more fun than a book safe, such as the one in which Andy hid his rock hammer (you've seen The Shawkshank Redemption, right? It's one of my all-time favorite movies! Thank you, Ted Turner, for showing it on TNT eleventy billion times!).

I made this book safe with my nephew's first initial. Pretty sure he liked it! Or at least he liked the money hidden inside :-).

You will need:
  • Book you don't mind destroying. This was copy of A Divine Comedy. I feel a little bad about cutting up Dante :-(.
  • Scrap piece of stiff paper - cardstock or thin cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Exacto knife or box cutter
  • Money and rubber band
  • Double-sided tape

DIY Dry Erase Board

Want to make your own customized dry erase board? It's so easy!

You will need:
  • Frame with glass insert
  • Mineral spirits or ammonia
  • Spray paint
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • painting surface
  • dry erase marker

Stamped Envelope Bookmark

I've been receiving so many lovely cards with very pretty stamps and envelopes. Would be a shame to waste them! Let's make some bookmarks :-).

You will need:
  • stamped envelopes
  • letter opener or knife
  • scissors or paper cutter
  • book

Folded Book Decor

Have any books lying round? Turn them into folded book decor! Use as centerpieces or shelf decoration.

This particular book is definitely not one of my faves. At least it can be used for crafts!

You will need:
  • Book that is better off becoming a craft instead of staying a work of (in my opinion, not-so-great) literature
  • Hands
  • Time

How to Make a Matching Magnet Set!

Tired of your cluttered-looking refrigerator door? Make a matching magnet set with a few coats of paint!

Most of these magnets were free, either from fair booths, conventions or mailings. The idea of putting company logos and contact info on magnets is great - who doesn't need more magnets? But the amalgamation of magnets ends up looking pretty sad (see below):

Make them all match!
