DIY Easy Ruffle Yarn Necklace!

Here's a 5-dollar, 5-minute, no-sew, no-knit project that anyone can make!

I found a skein of this gorgeous yarn in the clearance bin. After staring at it for an inordinate amount of time, I came up with an idea! Use it like T-shirt yarn and make a necklace!

Supplies:
  • One skein (30 yards) ruffle yarn
  • Ruler (optional)
  • Pin
  • Scissors
  • Hand and elbow (optional)

I used Red Heart Boutique Sashay yarn. This color blend is called "Waltz". Buy it for $4 at Walmart or use a 40% off Michael's coupon to get it for less than $5!

Unwind a length of yarn. Do not unwind the whole skein at once - this could lead to knots and tangles! If the yarn gets tangled, this project will end up taking much longer than 5 minutes!

Measure four inches from the end of the yarn. Place a pin to mark the four-inch spot. This will be the spot that sits behind your neck.

Decide on your method. Whichever method you prefer, make sure the circles are large enough to easily fit over your head:

Method 1:

Make a loop around your neck. Determine how long you'd like the necklace to hang. Pin through the desired length.  I chose a loop of 32" (16" doubled up - see pic below). Slightly spread out the circle of yarn. Use the circle as your pattern. Make continuous loops until you run out of yarn. Unwind the last loop.

Method 2:

Grasp the pin-marked area between your thumb and index finger. Wind the yarn around your elbow in loops until you reach the end of the skein. Unwind the last loop.

Method 3 (not pictured):

Stand in front of a mirror and wind the yarn around your neck until you reach the end of the skein. Unwind the last loop.

After you've completed method 1,2 or 3:

Loosely tie the 4-inch end to the long end. Remove the pin. Tuck the 4-inch section to a side.

Wind the long end over the 4-inch section.

Tuck the end under the last little loop. Pull taut. Do this twice.

Cut the long end so that it's no longer than five inches and no shorter than 3 inches. Cut at a slight slant.

Tuck the end into the loops.

Done! Charming, comfortable and warm!
