Book Page Medallions

Supplies:
  • Jigsaw & Saw Horses
  • Hardcover Book
  • Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
  • Buttons
  • Ribbon
  • Hole Punch
  • Scissors or X-acto Knife

Cut the book into 1-inch slices with a jig saw. I usually leave a large block of book at the end.

** Edit 4/1/2016 - You'll need some kind of power saw to cut through the book. I used a $30 Skil jig saw from Home Depot.

Remove cover and loose parts of binding. Start bending the binding, every ten pages or so.

Count out ten pages from one end. Leave them hanging. Count out another ten pages. Bend the pages over into a loop. Add glue to the non-bound end. Firmly press into the binding. Hold until the glue is set.

Repeat until you reach the desired fullness for your medallion. Glue the ends of the first 10 pages the opposite way from the rest of the pages, so that they ends are tucked against the ends of the second 10 pages. Add glue to lower side of last and first loops. Hold loops together until the glue is set.

Add a button to the center (both front and back).

Make a hole in one of the loops.

Make a ribbon loop. Knot the end. Pull the loop of the ribbon through the hole, leaving the knot inside the paper loop.

Hang these book page medallions on chair backs, on the corner of picture frames or on your Christmas Tree!

  1. How do you cut through the book with regular scissors?

  2. I don't think it's possible to cut through books with a regular pair of scissors :-(. You'll need some sort of power saw. I used a cheap Skil jig saw - $30 at home depot! Totally worth the investment since I use it in so many projects.

  3. These are cute but not sure I could bring myself Is cut up a hard bound book. I guess if a book was damaged in some way and ready for the trash I could cut it up.
