Did you see the photo tutorial of how to make colored ice balloons on Pinterest? The picture doesn't lead to a web address :-(.
It worked!!
Just add a few drops of food coloring into the balloon, hook the mouth of the the balloon around your faucet, hold tightly and fill with water. Knot the end. Set outside (in freezing weather--Minnesota is a great place for this!) for 2 days. Set it on hard snow. If you set it into soft snow, it'll sink in and the snow will act as an insulator instead of a freezer. See pic below:
The water didn't freeze. But these would make beautiful outdoor votives.
