Felt Petal Wreath

I had a special request come in for a felt wreath tutorial. Sorry it took so long! <3

Kinda made this up as I went along. I wanted something different from the felt wreaths I'd seen before.

Be prepared to devote time to this project. It took me four hours from start to finish.

You will need:

one, two or three different colors of felt
- For the wreath below I used: 2/3 yard white, 1/4 yard black, and a smidge of baby blue
Felt petal template (free printable)
Sharp scissors
Glue gun
Full pack of glue sticks. And I do mean a full pack.
Dollar store mirror 13" x 11" (From the Dollar Tree)
Scrap cardstock
Pennies!

Get ready to cut felt! Make sure your scissors is sharp. A dull scissors will easily double the cutting time. And infinitely multiple the irritation factor. :-).

There are four different petal sizes on the template. These cut numbers are approximate. The final tally will depend on how closely you space the petals.

38 of size 1 ( largest, one layer)
-12 white
-14 black
-12 blue

38 of size 2 (second largest, one layer)
-22 white
-16 black

70 of size 3 (second smallest, two layers)
-54 white
-16 black

24 of size 4 (smallest, one layer)
-24 white

You'll be adding glue to two spots inside the petal. With the petal unfolded, add glue to the lower left side of the petal. Fold in. Add glue to the lower right side of the petal. Fold in.

Add glue to the back lower end of the petal. Attach the four corner petals to the four corners of the mirror.

Add petals to both sides of the corner petals. There should be three petals at each corner.

Fill in the rest of the first layer.

Using petal size 2, start the second layer. The point of each petal on the second layer should rest in the slight indent between the petals of the bottom layer. Think of it as building a honeycomb.

Using petal size 3, build the third layer.

Using petal size four, build the fourth layer. I only needed four black petals (one at each black corner). Adding two would make it look too smooshed together.

Using petal size four again, build the fifth layer. Don't be afraid to skip a petal if it's looking too crowded.

Take a few scraps of felt and glue them to the center of the mirror. We want to make this area as flat as possible.

Look at the center of the wreath. Cut a piece of scrap cardstock to fit the center. Cut two layers of felt to the same size as the cardstock. Glue all layers together and trim to fit the center. Glue to center.

Glue pennies to the center piece. I chose to use pennies in the center instead of a flower petal center because I thought this needed a bit of shine.

Optional:
Put a light coat of white paint over the pennies. Rub the pennies with bit of rubbing alcohol.

Done!
